A bit about us and what you can expect

We see a large number of different patients with different problems, treating all manner of musculo-skeletal problems all over the body. Our emphasis is on treating every patient as an individual, with individual needs and requirements.

Treatment comprises gentle manipulation of the muscles and joints and if appropriate, the more direct manipulation of joints. Treatment should be comfortable and pain-free.

Patients can refer themselves directly to Louise Sanders Osteopaths, although many GPs are happy to refer. The team at Louise Sanders Osteopaths are registered with most health insurance companies, including AXA PPP and BUPA (a GP referral may be needed to claim on private health insurance)

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. Louise practises Western Acupuncture, to treat pain, which unlike Chinese Acupuncture, uses a medical diagnosis. It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It's likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture. Louise often uses acupuncture as an adjunct to Osteopathy, but also uses it as a therapy on its own. A course of acupuncture usually creates longer lasting pain relief than when a single treatment is used.

Currently, NICE recommends considering acupuncture as a treatment option for chronic (long-term) pain, chronic tension-type headaches and migraines. Acupuncture is also often used to treat other musculoskeletal conditions and pain conditions, including: joint pain, dental pain and postoperative pain.
